Cambodia - Sien Reap

Asian destinations are not my first choice as I always find their cultures very similar to mine. But I have heard of Angkor Wat in Cambodia since my early 20s and have always find the temples mysterious and fascinating.

Just 2.5 hours flight from Singapore and I am lost in another world, in another time.

Here're the places of interest:

1. Angkor Wat

World's largest religious monument, a UNESCO world heritage site and probably Cambodia's most recognisable icon.

Purchased a 3-Day pass at USD40 (applies to children above 12 years old) for access to lots of temples in the vicinity.

Note: If you want to climb the stairs to the highest temple, you have to wear proper attire that covers your shoulders and legs. If not, you can always buy from the flea market across the street at USD5-6. It will be very hot if you wear it on top of your existing singlet and shorts.

You have been warned.  ;p

2. Ta Prohm

The most amazing characteristic of Ta Prohm is the old trees and their roots. Over the years, mother nature seem to have taken over the temple monuments, giving the place an ancient, forbidden and forgotten-look.

3. Ta Keo

Characterised by the steep and large steps up to the top. It was a difficult climb. Maybe the Cambodian people in those days were way larger?

4. Bayon

My personal favourite in this trip to Cambodia. The incense smoke gave the place a mysterious aura. The monuments in Bayon Temple are mostly carved into 4-faced Buddha.

5. Preah Khan

A place characterised by intricate carvings. A perfect place for wedding photography.

6. Nean Peak

Characterised by a temple in the middle of a lake. Walk via a long pathway right to the center of the lake.

7. Banteay Srei

This temple is slightly different from the rest in that it takes on a reddish hue. This is because it is made of red sandstone.
